United Democratic Alliance(UDA) flagbearer William Ruto bought a second-hand (mtumba) jacket at an escalated price of Ksh20,000.

Ruto who was on a campaign trail in Gikomba market, Kamukunji constituency, was selling his manifestos when a trader offered him an olive green short-sleeved jacket before he began negotiating.

Ruto tried on the jacket and seemed to like it.

“Hii nguo ni noma, si noma?” he quipped.

He negotiated with the lady further saying; “Sasa tupige bei… hapana, elfu mbili ni nyingi! Bei ya jioni!”

Huyu madam anataka kuninyoa bila maji? Usinione hivo, nimehchanuka msinione hivi! the DP said amid cheers from his enthusiastic supporters.

The two then agreed on Ksh1,500 before Ruto handed her Ksh20,000.

Umenikata tano? Chukua elfu ishirini basi ujipange nayo,” he said before giving her the cash.

In his manifesto, DP Ruto promised to introduce a legislative focused on the welfare of the small and medium enterprise traders, with an emphasise on imported second-hand clothes(‘mitumba.’)

“My government will establish processes and systems that will see the establishment of textile factories here in Kenya, and also ensure the growth and expansion of the mitumba trade,” Ruto told a section of Gikomba market mitumba traders when he hosted them at his Karen residence last month.

“Every business must be respected, protected and boosted to become bigger and better.”
