Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore, the CS accused of squatting in a Ksh120 million house in Karen has accused the owners of the house of malice.

In a statement on Sunday, June 18, 2023, Bore claimed that she had entered into a purchase agreement with Gatanga MP Edward Muriu and his wife Maria Muriu.

According to the CS, Muriu's lawyers had acknowledged the receipt of the purchase agreement, after which she wired 10 per cent of the agreed amount to the MP's lawyer's account.

@My attention is drawn to the viral media reports on the sale and purchase transaction of a house in Karen between myself and a company associated with Hon. Edward Muriu. I entered into an agreement to purchase the property at a negotiated and agreed purchase price. Resultantly, I signed my part of the agreement for sale and transmitted the agreement through my lawyers to the vendor's lawyers for signing on their part. Their lawyers, Muriu Mungai & Company (MMC Asafo), acknowledged receipt of the signed agreement for sale by stamping on the forwarding letter by my advocates," Bore stated.

"In compliance with the respective clauses of the agreement, I sourced a 10 per cent deposit from my Sacco and paid directly to the Vendor's lawyers' account via RTGS. It was a term in the agreement for sale that the completion period of the transaction was 90 days from the date of signing the agreement. We agreed that I take occupation of the house while I retreated to seek a mortgage facility for the balance, which I legitimately expected to obtain within the agreed transaction period of 90 days."

The CS now claims that the couple wants to evict her after getting a better offer for the house, less than 30 days after the sale agreement was signed.

"Unfortunately, in an astounding weave of events, in less than 30 days of the agreement, Hon Edward Muriu and his Wife attempted to unlawfully evict my children from the house while I was out of the Country. They were accompanied by armed goons necessitating the need for police presence in the premises. For a colleague in leadership to take advantage of my absence from the country to run a hate campaign instead of waiting to engage me upon return is not only queer but baffling. The dramatized and sensational allegations are fabricated to unlawfully dissociate from the agreement ostensibly because they have found a "better deal"," CS Bore added.

"The transaction was a private engagement between a willing seller and a willing buyer, both parties duly represented by lawyers in total conformity with the law. The media pitch was therefore unwarranted and ancillary to the transaction."

Karen house saga

On Saturday, there was a tussle on the Karen property between the police and an alleged contractor who had been sent by the Muriu's to renovate the house, only to be turned away by the police.

Later, Mrs Muriu accused the CS of trying to take over the palatial home forcefully after her alleged initial bid was rejected.

"The female CS is even using the police to execute the grabbing of the plot. Scores of officers have been deployed to guard her as she forcibly occupies the house," Ms Muriu said.

According to Mrs Muriu, the house in Amara Ridge, Karen, is registered under her and her husband although they had placed it on the market".

The CS, according to Mrs Muriu, placed a Ksh90 million bid, Ksh30 million short of what the couple was willing to take.

"It was two weeks ago when she came to my home and gave us an offer of Ksh90 million. I told her the least I could take was Ksh120 million and she left," Mrs Murio said.

Mrs Muriu said the CS took advantage of their travel abroad to attend the graduation ceremony of their daughter.

"When we came back on Wednesday I asked my people to go and undertake renovations in the house but to my shock, the house was illegally occupied," Ms Muriu said.
