Davis Chirchir ranked as worst-performing CS in latest TIFA poll

In the most recent survey conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA), Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has been ranked the worst-performing among the 22 CSs appointed by President William Ruto.

In a poll conducted between November 25 and December 7, 2023, Chirchir scored a meagre 19 per cent approval rating indicating dissatisfaction with his performance.

The poll results also spotlighted top-performing Cabinet Secretaries in Ruto's administration.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki led the pack with a 65 per cent approval rating.

Other high-performing Cabinet Secretaries included Musalia Mudavadi, holding the dual role of Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ezekiel Machogu in Education, and Kipchumba Murkomen in Roads, all receiving favourable ratings above 50 per cent.

Cabinet Secretaries such as Aden Duale in Defense, Susan Nakhumincha in Health, and Eliud Owalo in ICT & Digital Economy also received commendable approval ratings

Previous TIFA report

In the July 2023 report by TIFA, all 22 Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) were found to have recorded performances below 40 per cent.

Notably, Kindiki emerged as the top performer with a rating of 34 per cent.

"At least one-third of Kenyans mention Kindiki Kithure as the best performing Cabinet Secretary," the report read.

Four CSs, namely Trade CS Moses Kuria, Aden Duale (Defence), Eliud Owalo (ICT), Njunguna Ndung'u (Treasury), and Musalia Mudavadi (Prime Cabinet Secretary), received a meagre 1 per cent ranking each.

Other cabinet members including Simon Chelugui (Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development, MSMEs), Davis Chirchir (Energy and Petroleum), Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs), Alice Wahome (Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation), and Salim Mvurya (Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs) collectively scored 4 per cent.
