Detectives have apprehended two suspects and confiscated three bales of bhang in Busia.
In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the suspects, Ferdinand Wanjero, 29, and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, were arrested after members of the public reported suspicious activity.
The two men were seen at the busy Busia bus station preparing to board a Climax bus bound for Nairobi, carrying backpacks that aroused suspicion.

"Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Busia have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized three bales of bhang stashed in backpacks believed to have been destined for the capital, Nairobi," the DCI stated.
Adding;
"Ferdinand Wanjero, 29, and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa, 26, were arrested following information from members of the public that two men were spotted at the bustling Busia bus station, preparing to board a Climax bus bound for Nairobi, carrying suspected narcotics in their bags."
DCI said the anti-narcotics officers acted swiftly on the tip-off and conducted a thorough search of the suspects' backpacks. The search revealed 12 kilograms of cannabis sativa, with an estimated street value of Ksh360,000.
"Anti-narcotics officers responded swiftly and managed to arrest the two, and upon thorough search discovered the 12kg of cannabis sativa with an approximate street value of Sh360,000. Legal processes have been initiated against the duo," the DCI's statement read in part.
Ferdinand Wanjero and Daniel Juma Mwadimwa are currently in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway.

Bhang seized in Utawala
This comes barely a month after detectives made a bhang seizure in Utawala.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 30, DCI said the operation targeted the residence of a suspected notorious trafficker, Joseph Nisa Ouma.
According to the DCI, the raid resulted in the recovery of 12 sacks of bhang, along with six sets of car number plates.
The items were found in Ouma's residence located in the Utawala AP Stage area.
"DCI officers drawn from the Transnational Organized Crimes and Anti-Narcotics Unit today recovered 12 sacks of Cannabis sativa and six sets of car number plates from the house of a notorious trafficker, who had earlier been intercepted with another 50 sacks of the same drug along the Kisii-Rongo highway. Joseph Nisa Ouma had been temporarily released from Muthaiga police cells for a search in his Utawala AP Stage house, where the recoveries were made including a digital weighing scale," DCI said.
DCI said Ouma had previously been intercepted by authorities while transporting 50 sacks of the same drug along the Kisii-Rongo highway.
