A policeman was on Tuesday afternoon hit by rioters as police officers tried to execute a court order on trespassers in Athiriver Sub-County in Machakos County.

The officer identified as Felix Nyagwa lost two teeth after a stone landed on his mouth when villagers tried to sabotage their mission.

The officers drawn from Athiriver, Mlolongo and Kyumvi police stations were executing the court order after the owner of the land filed a miscellaneous application from Milimani Commercial Court dated July 22, 2021.

A police report seen by K24 Digital revealed that the trespassers had put up illegal structures on the land which is located at Ngelani village within Athiriver.

“During the exercise that was aimed at flashing out the 300 villages, they engaged the police in running battles and started pelting stones to the officers and applicants,” the report read in part.

It further revealed that the officers retaliated by firing 50 rounds of rubber bullets and 20 tear gas canisters.

However, the exercise was called off after the officer was injured and in the process, officers were served with another court order from Mavoko Law Court regarding temporary injunction on the previous order.

The officer was rushed to Shallom Community Hospital where he is currently admitted and is in fair condition.
