Wajir: Al-S*****b m*******s shoot officer on patrol after deflating their vehicle’s tires

Police officers in Hasabwen, Wajir County, have launched a search for suspected Al-Shabaab militants who attacked and injured an officer on Monday, October 17, 2022.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the Recce squad officers were on patrol when they were attacked by the armed bandits suspected to be members of the Al-Shabaab group.

Before the attack, the bandits deflated the tires of the vehicle they were using before shooting. Constable Abdimalik Ahmed sustained a gunshot injury on the collar bone.

"It was reported that the officers on patrol duties were attacked by armed bandits suspected to be members of Alshabaab militants. The tires of their vehicles were deflated before the attackers began shooting. P.C Abdimalik Ahmed sustained a shot injury on the collar borne," the police report read in part.

The Border Police Unit (BPU) based at Kulan responded quickly and rushed the casualty to Amisom Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Dobley, hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Following the incident, reinforcement was immediately sent to pursue the attackers and tow the vehicle.

Gang arrested in Marsabit

In a separate incident, police in Marsabit County arrested a gang of three alleged to have been involved in the murder of two Armored Personel Carriers (APC) at the start of October.

A multi-agency security team that conducted the search discovered two AK 47 rifles loaded with 10 and 3 rounds of ammunition.

Prior to the arrests, the security team got information that the three had been hiding in a bush at the Guro Rukesa location.

"A multi-agency security team acted immediately and arrested three people; Roba Jaso aged 20, Galgalo Boru aged 19 and Roba Sora aged 39. They recovered two rifles from them AK 47 serial number 88342299 loaded and a SHE rifle serial number 71275 loaded with a magazine of 10 and 3 respectively," the police report added.
