A two-week-old male infant survived after it was thrown in a 30-foot pit latrine in Vipingo, Kilifi County on Thursday night.

Good Samaritans removed the baby from the pit latrine at In His Grace Academy School in Kilifi South Constituency at 11pm Thursday.

Junju Location Chief, David Kahindi, said investigations to establish who threw the baby in the pit latrine have commenced.

The school’s security guard, Katana Charo, told K24 Digital that he did not see anyone entering the compound through the gate.

“I only heard a baby crying beneath the latrine floor, and when I looked into the pit, I saw an infant wrapped in a white baby blanket floating on human waste. I alerted other people, who came to the scene. One of the Good Samaritans, identified as Kahindi Buyo, offered to skillfully remove it from the lavatory,” said Charo.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Doctors confirmed its bodily functions were unaffected.

“The infant was, thereafter, taken to an orphanage in Vipingo,” said Chief Kahindi.
