10 police recruits arrested over fake academic papers

Ten recruits who have been undergoing training at Kiganjo police training college for the last three months have been arrested after the examination body said their certificates were forged.

The ten reported at the National Police College's main Campus; Kiganjo in late March this year where all their certificates were forwarded to Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for verification and authentication.

The KNEC however gave a report that the certificates belonging to Mochama Opio Clive (certificate number 0885620), Muithi John Kitavi (3298522), Natembea Kelvin (4314347), Nyapola Felix Angatia (3702334), and Mwaulid Galgalo Bide (0656972), had been forged.

Others are Gobra Grindguest (2516509), Ndambuki Irene Nzisa (1601830), Felix Kipkoech Langat (1221024), Kabatha Paul Kimani (1139904), and John Crispus Amisi (2280536).

"The college administration forwarded the certificates for verification but the ten were found to be fake. The subject grades and the mean grade had been altered," a senior officer said.

The matter is being investigated by the Nyeri Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation office and they will be charged with forgery once the investigations are complete.

On April 6, another recruit was arrested at the same college when he was found in possession of a forged admission document.

Josephat Mutemi Mwendwa said he was given the document by his father. “The recruit upon interrogation alluded that he was handed over the docket number by his father John Mwendwa who collected the same at Modern Coast Parcel’s office in Nairobi,” police said then.

The recruitment of the officers was conducted nationally on March 24 and the applicants were required to possess a minimum qualification of D plus in the KCSE examination.
