Willy Paul has dropped the strongest hints yet that he could be going back to the gospel industry after four years in the secular world.

In a statement on Tuesday 30, 2024, Willy Paul promised to reinvent himself and bring back the old shelf.

"This Year I'm Bringing Back Willy Paul. The Willy Paul You All Miss, Listen Good Fam, Willy Paul Has Gone Through Alot And That's Why Pozze Came Through… Pozze Is Actually a Defence Mechanism For Willy Paul. Pozze Is The One Protecting Willy Paul. We All Know How Cartels Operate!! Tried Finishing Willy But Failed Terribly," Willy Paul wrote.

On Monday, Willy Paul expressed his joy and optimism after he attended a church service for the first time in seven years.

The controversial musician exuded confidence that 2024 would be a great year for him after he went back to church.

"I've Not Been To Church Since 2017, Because The Church Did Something Bad To Me. But Yesterday I Attended a Church Service In Embakassi And I Feel So Relieved 😌. It's Going To Be Wonderful Year Coz I've Started Mine In Church !!" Willy Paul stated.

Gospel to secular

Willy Paul quit the gospel industry in 2019 and started releasing secular songs.

In July 2021, the singer explained in detail in a post on social media why he decided to quit the gospel music industry and opted to do secular songs.

Willy Paul noted that discrimination and favouritism were the main reasons why he opted to cross over to the secular industry.

He claimed that fellow musicians hated him and that some gospel deejays refused to give his songs airplay claiming they were ungodly.

Some of you ask me why I left the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and even call me names because I no longer praise Jesus in my songs. According to them, I’m so evil and everything bad. Those are the same people that fought me nikiwa upande wa Yesu.”

Reasons as to why I left. Hate from my fellow artists and Djs, luck of airplay ( claiming my content wasn’t Godly back then ) ubaguzi na mapendeleo.. I was the top artist but these evil people couldn’t see that. Or they just chose to ignore the reality! These people broke my heart!”

“They hurt me so badly, I was depressed for 4 months I kept crying in silence every single day and night. It got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore,” Willy Paul explained in a social media post.

Willy Paul further stated that he was always broke as a gospel singer to the point of not being able to provide at home, adding that he chose to switch sides because he had bigger hopes for his career.

I had no money to pay my bills and even help out pale nyumbani. Can you imagine I had the biggest songs na hawa watu wakanichorea hivo tu. I’m not perfect but what I went through as a gospel artist, no servant of God should go through!!. Since I loved music and had bigger hopes for my career I chose the other side which is where I am today, n that’s what has kept me alive and stable.

I was tired of the hypocrisy in the so-called Gospel industry. Plus I just wanted 2b real with myself and not lie to God! God cannot be fooled so I took a chill pill na sai niko hapa. Same same people that didn’t want me there were the first to reach out !”
