Celebrated actor Wilfred Olwenya Maina, renowned for his role 'Oti' in the Kenyan blockbuster Nairobi Half Life, died on Monday, July 4, 2022.

It was reported that Olwenya collapsed and was pronounced dead at a city hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

According to post-mortem results released by his family, the late actor succumbed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes thickened (hypertrophied). The thickened heart muscle can make it harder for the heart to pump blood.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy often goes undiagnosed because many people with the disease have few if any symptoms.

For some people, HCM can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, or abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

Treatment may include surgery, an implantable device, or medications to slow or regulate the heart rate. [sic].

Olwenya plays a journalist in the Netflix series which is set to be released on July 15, 2022.

The late actor reunited with fellow thespians Nini Wacera and Shix Kapienga who starred alongside him in Nairobi Half Life.
