The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the partial opening of the Mai Mahiu - Suswa - Narok Road.

In their statement, the road authority said the traffic flow on the road has partially been restored and opened to traffic.

However, KeNHA advised motorists to exercise caution as they drive through the affected sections between the Weighbridge and Suswa Ranch and follow guidance from traffic marshalls to avoid getting stuck on silt deposits.

"Further to our update on the closure of the Mai Mahiu - Suswa section of the B7 Road, we wish to notify road users that the traffic flow has partially been restored and opened to traffic.

"However, heavy rains continue pounding the area hampering complete restoration. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as they drive through the affected sections and follow guidance from traffic marshals lest they get stuck on silt deposits," KeNHA said.

The authority additionally assured motorists that they were working round the clock to ensure the safety of all road users.

The road agency further reiterated its commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate the safe passage of goods and services.

KeNHA announced the road's closure on Tuesday, April 30 2024, after heavy rains which caused sudden siltation and heavy debris deposited on a section stretching over a kilometre in Suswa area.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority would like to notify the public of the closure of Mai Mahiu - Narok Road. This follows sudden siltation, coupled with heavy debris deposited on a section stretching over a kilometre this evening at Suswa area, about 27 kilometres from Mai Mahiu town towards Narok," a statement by KeNHA reads in parts.

The authority subsequently advised motorists plying the route to use alternative routes such as the main Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. The authority assured motorists of their commitment to seamless connectivity.

"The closure will allow smooth clearance of the siltation and avoid incidents of vehicles getting stuck among other possible dangers. The Authority advises motorists plying this route to use alternative routes including the main Nairobi - Nakuru Highway. The Authority remains committed to seamless connectivity," KeNHA added.
