Kitui governor Charity Ngilu has taken a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto for allegedly lying to the lowly-placed Kenyans that his government will create positions for them and empower them economically.
Ngilu, who spoke in Mombasa during Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s rally, chided Ruto for ignoring the downtrodden and instead went for political heavyweights in his lineup of possible officials in his supposed government.
Ngilu criticized Ruto’s decision days after it emerged that in his lineup of leaders in the possible Kenya Kwanza government, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya party counterpart Moses Wetangula will enjoy a relatively big share of the national cake.

“They said that BBI was about creating positions…they now want to reintroduce the same, shame on them. These are liars,” Ngilu said.
“Mudavadi ndiye mama mboga, Wetangula ndiye bodaboda (Mudavadi and Wetangula are the low-income earners?),” she queried.

In the deal that has since sparked a storm, especially among Mount Kenya leaders who feel having been left out despite widely supporting Ruto’s candidature, Kenya Kwanza has proposed to create the office of the prime cabinet secretary who will be in charge of supervision and coordination of government ministries, a position that will supposedly be created within 14 days if the alliance wins the August 9 election.
The position is said to have been reserved for Mudavadi while Ford Kenya party leader Wetangula is set to be the next possible Speaker of the National Assembly.
The move by Ruto has caused a rift in his camp with some of his lieutenants among them former Kiambu governor William Kabogo threatening to jump out of the ship should the Second in Command fail to unearth how Mt Kenya region will benefit from his government.
Meanwhile, angry Ngilu also accused former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko of disrespecting Odinga after his vehicles chaotically entered the ground where Odinga’s rally was happening.
“Unless someone is insane, who can bring a vehicle to pass through where people are. Respect is paramount and anyone wishing to speak to you should have come in respect. Odinga is not a small man to play with,” Ngilu posed.
