A 22-year-old woman from Murpus sub location in West Pokot County is seeking justice after she was allegedly assaulted by her fellow woman because she has not undergone female genital mutilation FGM.

The mother of two, who is also a form four student at Werpo Ortum secondary school, said she has been stigmatized on several occasions by her fellow women who always belittle her by telling her that she is not supposed to talk before other women because she has not undergone the cut.

On Sunday during their weekly chama meeting at her neighbours home, things became worse after her fellow woman attacked her beating her up and even bite her thump finger accusing her for airing her views yet she has not undergone FGM.

Speaking to K24 Digital on phone, the assaulted woman Sylvia Chepting said on Sunday evening during their chama meeting she suggested to her fellow women to be coming early because she is a student and has her school assignments to work on but her statement didn't not ogre well with one of the neighbors.

"My neighbor came late and I questioned why. She turned violent and shut me down telling me I go get circumcised before addressing her. She descended on me with kicks and blows," she narrated.

She added that the woman bit her right hand thump finger and told her she will carry her to the cutter for her to be circumcised.

"My neighbors saved my life. I was screaming for help and I told her I will report her to the area chief. The neighbors rescued me and even on Monday I didn't go to school because I was suffering from the injuries," she said.

She added that she went to report to the area chief who assured her that the suspect will be arrested.

She said the woman has been forcing her to undergo FGM to an extent of threatening to take her to the nearest circumciser.

She said she went to Ortum Triot dispensary on that Sunday and she was injected with a tetanus vaccine with some pain killers to reduce the pain.

She added that on Monday she woke up and reported the incident to Ortum police station for the woman to be arrested.

"I have been heartbroken despite being a mother of two, my parents and husband have never forced me to undergo the cut. I'm shocked how a fellow woman can attack me and force me to undergo the cut," she said.

Ortum police station officer commanding station Kasanga David said they are conducting their investigation before the suspect known as Mama Boaz is arrested.
