Lawrence Warunge, the main suspect in the killings of four family members and a farmhand, has been found unfit to stand trial for murder.

However, the court has directed another test to be conducted in 30 days after Warunge undergoes mental health treatment.

Meanwhile, the murder suspect will be detained in police custody in Nairobi County.

The directive was issued on Tuesday morning, January 26, by Kiambu Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi after a mental and age assessment conducted at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital revealed that Warunge is not fit to stand trial.

Warunge's girlfriend, Sarah Muthoni, who was also held as a suspect in the killings of the suspect's parents, siblings, and a farmhand, has been turned into a prosecution witness.

Muthoni has also been freed from police custody.
