Police in Lugari, Kakamega County are investigating an incident in which a ward administrator of Chekalini was found dead on Friday evening (February 29).

The body of Joyce Mukhanya Mwofula was found dumped in Kipkaren River in Lugari.

Mukhanya, 38, went missing on Monday evening (February 24) from her Bondeni Village home in Chekalini.

Mukhanya’s disappearance was discovered by neighbours, who went to her home at 5am Tuesday to find out why her 3-month-old daughter was crying endlessly.

A missing person’s report was filed at a nearby police station.

On Friday, Mukhanya’s badly mutilated body was found dumped in Kipkaren River

A resident, Vincent Wamalwa, who had gone to take a bath in the river, was the one who spotted her body, and alerted police.

“The body had been placed in a rocky edge in the river,” Wamalwa told K24 Digital.

Mukhanya’s nephew, Emmanuel Musungu, urged police to conduct speedy investigations and bring their loved one’s killer to book.

The body of the Late ward admin. was taken to Webuye County Hospital morgue.

Mukhanya is survived by her husband and three children (two sons, who are in primary school and the 3-month-old daughter).

K24 Digital understands that Mukhanya’s husband was in Nairobi for advanced studies, when the ward admin went missing from home.

No arrests have been made so far, with Lugari OCPD Benedict Mwangangi saying an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
