Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu made an about-turn on Sunday over his affiliation with Jubilee Party's Tanga Tanga group when he declared his support for the handshake team.

"There is now no Tanga Tanga or Kieleweke. No one can claim he owns Uhuru more than the other. This is now past tense," Mr Waititu is heard telling a crowd in Kikuyu language.

The governor, who was barred from running Kiambu County until his corruption case in Sh588 million tender saga is heard and determined, said he is fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake.

"I am 100 percent fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake," Mr Waititu said.

Even though he supports the BBI team, the Kiambu County boss said he is still for the presidential system.

Before his woes began, Mr Waititu was a prominent member of the Jubilee Party wing that supports Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.

"For me to have made it to be governor is because of God's blessing. The same God who has brought me this far will be able to help me deal with my cases in court and soon they will be over," said Mr Waititu of legal troubles.
