President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i have vowed to ensure that the attackers who killed 11 General Service Unit (GSU) officers will be apprehended.
The GSU officers were killed on Saturday in Garissa after their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Kenya-Somalia border.
“His Excellency the President last evening received the sad news of the 11 National Police Service Officers brutally killed in Daadab, Garissa County,” read a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena on Sunday.

President Kenyatta assured the kin of the fallen GSU officers of Government support and warned “misguided elements that Kenya will never succumb to their cowardly terrorist actions.”
Earlier on Sunday, Interior CS Matiang’i had issued a similar statement warning attackers that Kenya will remain unfazed in the fight against terror.
“I extend my deepest sympathies and profound solidarity with the families of our gallant officers who lost their lives in Garrisa last night. Their selfless patriotic sacrifice to serve Kenya renews our resolve in the fight against terror. Kenya remains unbowed,” CS Matiang’i wrote on his Twitter handle on Sunday.
Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said they dispatched reinforcements to the area to pursue the attackers.
The officers, who were based at the Harhar GSU Camp, were on a routine security patrol when the attack occurred at Degow on the road between Liboi and Damajale close to the Kenya-Somalia border.
