One person was shot dead and four others injured at Kabaldamet village in Endo ward Elgeiyo Marakwet East as they were going to cast their votes in the UDA nominations.

Speaking after casting his vote, and confirming the incident, Elgeiyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesly Rotich condemned the incident saying it has become a norm in the region.

Rotich said the incident was aimed at scaring away some of the voters not to vote for their favourite candidate.

“We are disappointed by the government because people are dying and no action has been taken," Koech said.

Residents blame the security apparatus for not taking action against the perpetrators and those found culpable of banditry.

Governor seat spirants Josphat Sawe, Sammy Tangus, Loice Chemnjo also condemned the incident.

Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet promised to end banditry and killings at the Kerio Valley in Elgeiyo Marakwet, saying that he has the ability to bring to an end the menace once elected the governor.
