Tuesday power blackout to affect 7 counties

Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced scheduled power interruptions in select parts of the country on March 5, 2024.

In a statement on Monday evening, the power utility firm said the interruption is part of network maintenance and will affect seven counties, including parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Makueni, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Nyeri and Kirinyaga.

The areas that will be affected in Nairobi are Ruaka Groove, Runda Groove, Runda Rd, Bid Mathu, Runda Riviera, Puffin Dr, Pan Africa Insurance, Runda Mumwe, Glory Rd, Mimosa Ridge, Mimosa Groove, Mimosa Dr. Mimosa Rd. Mimosa Vale, Mae Ridge, Andrew and Elia Zagoritis, Part of Northern Bypass, Runda Water, Two Rivers and adjacent areas.

The areas will experience power interruptions between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

In Kiambu, Limuru Tea Estates, Limuru Girls, Mathanja, Kinyogori High School, Muharata, Limco Shoe Factory, Marbrouke Tea, Karirana Tea and Muna High School will experience power interruptions between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Other areas that will be affected in Kiambu are Githiga, Kwa Kariuki, Fresha Dairies, Kiawaroga Village, Kwa Nyakaro, Kizembe Estate, Kibenda Estate, Gitiha Nyara Tea, Mutosi, Nyakurira and adjacent customers.

Other areas listed for power shutdown in Kiambu County include Gatundu Town, Githaruru, Gatundu Hospital, St. Jude Hospital, Mukhwi, Ituru High, Muthurumbi High, Gaithece, Wamwangi, Kamunyu A & B. Githuya Village and adjacent customers.

Parts of Makueni County will also experience a power blackout between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The areas listed for power shutdown are Sarova Market, Kiatine Primary, Kilala, Ukia, Mukuyuni, Kyambalasi, Kivani, Kilyungi, Kitundu and Kali markets.

Scheduled power maintenance in Bungoma will run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The areas that will be affected include St. Teresa, Wananchi, Kwa Dinah, Molo, Lovington Estate, St. Mary's, St. Angela, Matisi Water Plant, Kuuywa, Khalumili, Ngwelo and adjacent customers.

Parts of Homa Bay will experience a power blackout between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The areas that will be affected include Awuoro Primary School, Mwamba Primary School, Nyabola Girls SDA Secondary School, Jerusalem SDA Church and adjacent areas.

Parts of Nyeri will experience the longest blackout between 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The areas listed for power shutdown are Kaiyaba, Kanyamo, Ngandu, Rititi, Ngaini, Kiangima, Gatiko, Gatung'ang'a, Hiriga, Chieni, Moganjo, Ruthagati, Ngorano, Kabiruini, Nyana, Njatheini, Karuthi, Kiondoweini, Ndunduini, Kiamariga, Kianjau, Lela, Kaagati, Sagana Fisheries, Karandi, Mutaago, Sagana Wage, Iruri and adjacent areas.

Additionally, parts of Kirinyaga will also be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The areas are Mwea Mosque, Mwea Boys Secondary School, Karira Hospital, Karira, Kasarani Gakungu, Ndorome, Nguka, Nguka H/Center, Marura, Muoroto, Mianya A & B, Kiuria, Nyaikungu, Kangichiri and adjacent customers.
