Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has ordered primary and secondary school tutors back to school.

Speaking on Monday, September 21, 2020, TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia said teachers have between today, September 21, and September 28 to report to work.

"We wish to assure the country that our teachers are totally prepared and ready to help the children recover the lost time and academic year that was at risk of being lost," said Dr. Macharia.

This is in preparation ahead of the eventual reopening of schools for physical learning.

The TSC boss was speaking at the press conference led by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

The Education CS said that final year university students pursuing science courses can resume face-to-face learning ahead of their final exams.

However, Prof. Magoha said that the universities must ensure that the students observe Covid-19 safety measures.

On when schools will re-opened, he said the date will be announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta after he received the final report from the education stakeholders' committee.

“It is about time to call our children to go back to schools. Teachers will be coming to prepare schools for reopening,” said Prof. Magoha.
