A trader has been arraigned at Milimani Law Courts for allegedly obtaining over Sh1 million from a judge pretending to run a maize business whose proceeds would have funded the judicial officer's wedding.

Mr Josiah Nyamboga Onyoni appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and denied two charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.

He was released on a Sh 500,000 cash bail or a bond of Sh1 million.

He is accused of obtaining Sh 1, 066,000 from Justice Njiru Nyagah in Westlands, Nairobi on diverse dates between July 19 and September 10 last year.

The accused claimed that he was in a position to run a maize-buying and selling business to fund Nyagah’s wedding.

MR Onyoni is also charged with cheating in the second count.

Prosecution claimed that Mr Onyoni used fraudulent tricks to obtain Sh500,000 from Elvis Moenga by claiming he was in a position to purchase a prime-mover vehicle to operate a joint transport business.

The case will be mentioned on September 2.
