A 50-year-old man in the wee hours of Saturday morning was trampled to death by elephants at his farm in Mnazini village, Tana Delta Sub-County.

The deceased was guarding his green gram farm crops against destruction by wild animals when a herd of elephants trampled him killing him on the spot.

Police officers and KWS officers rushed to the scene after a report was made and found the body of the deceased with multiple fractures and bruises.

Tana Delta Sub-County Police Commander Salim Fundi speaking with KNA on phone confirmed the incident.

He urged farmers to guard farms in groups as wild animals from the Tsavo East National Park are moving towards River Tana in search of water and pasture, noting that the prolonged drought has exacerbated the human-wildlife conflict.

“Elephant hoofprints were observed within and around the scene. The body of the deceased was removed and taken to the Hola Referral Hospital for preservation and postmortem,’’ reads a police signal seen by KNA.
