A fourth-year Meru University student was on Wednesday night shot dead at Phadam Hospital in Umoja, Nairobi.

The 24-year-old is said to have recognized two armed robbers, prompting the fatal shooting. He had gone to the hospital to buy drugs for his sick mother.

According to the police report, the robbers went to the hospital posing as customers but immediately held the staff who were on duty hostage, including a doctor, receptionist, security guard and two members of the public.

During the raid, police said a commotion ensued between the thugs and one of the customers who is said to have identified them as they were robbing him of his valuables.

The thugs shot him in the throat, killing him on the spot.

The crime scene was visited by police officers from the Buruburu division.

Police said they have launched a manhunt for the two thugs who escaped on foot after the deadly raid.
