Two Sonko boys, Clifford Ochieng Ouko and Benjamin Onyango Odhiambo, were on Friday arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts for allegedly procuring uniform resembling military attire, clothing which they were spotted wearing in public in contravention of the law.

According to the investigating officer at the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, the military attire is associated with a terrorist group that poses a threat to the national security of the country.

In an application by the Director of Criminal Investigations, the state is seeking to detain the duo for 30 days to complete their probe.

The two were arrested on Wednesday, February 3, on suspicion that they were planning to rescue a terror suspect at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Upon a search of their houses in Buruburu and Komarock, security agents said that they found military attire, mobile phones, DVDs, Sim Cards and a laptop, materials detectives want to forensically study.

According to the court documents, the two are suspected to possess firearms and military attire uniform they wore in the full glare of the media and public.

In a sworn affidavit, the investigating officer said the duo is a threat to the stability of this country and that he has information that they have been financing terrorism activities.

Further, the detective said he had credible information that the duo was in an advanced stage of procuring arms and ammunitions using a highly complex and sophisticated syndicate.

Besides, the detective told the court that their social media accounts indicated they played a role in facilitating planned attacks and they should not be underestimated.
