A 29-year-old woman has been charged in court with insulting a senior police officer who cautioned her against using a presidential staircase at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) building where she was reportedly attending a Church conference.

Kincy Nangami Wafula who appeared before Milimani Law Courts is alleged to have committed the offence on March 31, 2022.

"You are charged that on March 31st 2022 in a public place namely KICC building within Nairobi County you used abusive words by calling Catherine Otieno, the KICC OCS and Susan Misoi 'umbwa stupid, useless and f*ck you' with intent to provoke a breach of peace," the charge sheet read in part.

According to court documents, the woman who works at a Nairobi firm was looking for a toilet to relieve herself when she bumped into the police officer who was on patrol on the second floor of the building.

Evidence states that she was stopped by the officer and questioned on why she was using the presidential staircase when an altercation ensued.

"On the material day, the KICC police station OCS was on patrol duties when she found the accused person using a staircase preserved for the president. She stopped her and cautioned her about the same but the accused became hostile," the police report read in part.

The accused person was later arrested and detained.

She pleaded not guilty and was released on a bond of Ksh20,000.
