President William Ruto on Wednesday, March 8 said he had engaged parliamentary leadership to explore a viable constitutional path to promote equality and inclusion in political representation.

In a message to mark this year's International Women's Day, the President said he was proud of the progress Kenya had made in raising socioe-conomic and political inclusion of women toward full equality.

"We stand ready to do our part in full and will not stop until we fulfil this critical commitment.

"This is the reason why I have engaged parliamentary leadership in the spirit of bipartisan patriotic collective action to explore a viable constitutional path to promote equality and inclusion in political representation," he said.

Ruto to remove barriers

He added: "We also commit to removing systemic barriers and staying the course towards equity for all in Kenya confident that the full participation of women can help us realise the missing half of our country's national product," he said.

International Women's Day, marked on March 8 every year, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
