On the morning of August 11, 2022, Daniel Musyoki woke up in his East African School of Aviation residence, upbeat and looking forward to the task ahead - to undertake his duties as the Embakasi East Constituency Returning Officer (RO).

Five days later, his cold lifeless body was found by herdsmen in a thicket about 250 kilometres South East of Nairobi - about two kilometres from Loitoktok police station and within Amboseli National Park along the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Detectives earmarked the crime scene as the grieving family came to terms with the loss of their kin.

Musyoka family now fears that their kin could have been murdered over elections matters.

They urge the government to ensure detailed and speedy investigations to unravel the mysterious murder.

Loitoktok Subcounty police commander Shadrack Kiprono Ruto says investigations into the incident have commenced in earnest.

He says preliminary findings indicate the body could have been murdered elsewhere before being dumped in Kajiado.

The stuck naked body was found by herdsmen and later identified by family members as the body of the missing IEBC official.

The body, which had injuries and marks of strangulation, will remain at the Loitoktok Subcounty Hospital Mortuary.

Musyoka bodyguard Denis Maina Gichure has since recorded a statement with the police.
