A police officer from Nairobi and three civilians were on Wednesday, December 9 arrested for robbery with violence.

The four allegedly waylaid and robbed a female accountant out of $50,000 (Ksh5.6 million) in a Parklands building lift.

The victim was on her way to deposit the money in the bank, when the suspects attacked her.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) say a police officer, who is one of the key suspects, is attached to Ruiru Police Station.

“Armed with pistols, the four together with others accosted the accountant while inside a lift,” the DCI said Wednesday in a statement on their Twitter page.

After the victim filed a report at the Parklands Police Station, law enforcement officers tracked down one of the suspects, Albert Ochola, to his Huruma home, where $10,000 (Ksh1.1 million) was recovered.

Police have established that Ochola works as a plumber at the Mitsumi Business Park.

A subsequent search led the police officers to the home of another suspect, Walter Kiverenge. Kiverenge, a resident of Kawangware, was found in possession of $12,300 (Ksh1.37 million), which had been hidden inside a water dispenser.

A further search in the Mathare house of another suspect, Bernard Ogutu Oketch, yielded another $10,000 (Ksh1.1 million).

Oketch had allegedly used part of the proceeds to buy a new TV set and two mobile phones, the DCI said.

The suspects will face robbery with violence charges on Thursday, December 10, police said.
