Detectives in Migori County have launched a manhunt for a robbery suspect who managed to evade capture during an early morning raid at his residence in Isibania on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

The operation, executed by detectives from specialized units of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), resulted in the recovery of a firearm and a significant cache of ammunition.

The sleuths recovered a Czeska pistol along with two magazines, 58 rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition, and a sharp dagger among the items.

"Detectives in Migori augmented by their counterparts from specialized units of the DCI have recovered a firearm and 58 rounds of ammunition in an early morning raid at a suspect's house in Isibania. A Czeska pistol with two magazines, 58 rounds of 9mm calibre, and a sharp dagger were among the recoveries made in the stealth operation," the DCI statement as seen by K24 Digital stated.

The primary target of the raid was identified as Peter Matinde Wandwi, who remains a person of interest in multiple violent robbery cases.

"The wanted suspect - Peter Matinde Wandwi - who remains on police radar for a number of violent robberies narrowly escaped the officers' dragnet, but his manhunt is underway," the statement read in part.

Despite a painstaking operation by law enforcement, Wandwi managed to narrowly escape the officers' dragnet.

However, police have launched an intensive manhunt to locate and apprehend him.

In addition to the attempted capture of Wandwi, two individuals believed to have ties to the suspect were arrested during the operation.

They are currently in custody and cooperating with detectives to aid in further investigations.

With the recovery of a firearm and a significant quantity of ammunition, law enforcement is determined to prevent potential acts of violence and criminal activities that could have been perpetrated using these weapons.

Residents of Isibania and the wider Migori County area are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities by providing any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation and the eventual apprehension of Peter Matinde Wandwi.
