Police gun down notorious criminals in Kisumu

Police in Kisumu on Saturday night gunned down two armed suspected criminals who have been terrorising residents in Kisumu.

The shooting incident was reported to have occurred at 23:30 hrs within Ragumo area, Nyalunya sub-location in Kolwa Central within Kisumu East Sub-county.

Confirming the matter, Kisumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu said his officers while on duty received information regarding the two notorious armed criminals who were staying in one tin room within Ragumo area.

The police boss said the officers immediately started their investigations by visiting the place and decided to knock on their door by introducing themselves as police officers when the duo hesitated first.

"Upon opening the door, the thugs accosted the officers while armed with a panga and a piston which was later realised to be a toy piston though closely resembling a Ceska pistol," he said.

He added that one of the thugs who was armed with a panga confronted one of the officers and unfortunately cut the handguard of his G3 ruffle S/NO.96075076.

"That was when the other officer who was behind managed to swing into action immediately before he could cut him and fired 4 rounds of ammunition from his Ceska pistol S/NO .G 8133 managing to fatally injure the duo, "Anampiu said.

Anampiu confirmed to us that they managed to recover a toy pistol from one Allan and a machete from Jomba.

When a search was conducted in their house, two iron crobbers were recovered.

The duo is well known to be behind a series of burglaries and robberies within Nyamasaria area and its environs.

Investigations revealed that one of the suspects Allan is out of bond from Winam law court where he was charged with burglary and stealing.

Anampiu appealed to members of the public to give them more information about those terrorising stating that they will make instant arrests.

He also pleaded with parents to be role models to their children and nature them well so that they do not turn into thugs to give people sleepless nights during these hard economic times.

"Community policing is key and emphasised so that we get rid of bad elements in our midst," he said.

The lifeless bodies of the deceased were driven by police vehicle to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching And Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary awaiting for postmortem.
