The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has suffered a major blow as the court refused to grant instant orders for access to CCTV footage of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s Karen home in Nairobi during an alleged police raid.

Milimani Magistrate Wandia Nyamu declined to issue the access orders and directed the DCI to serve the private security firm Bob Morgan Security Limited which installed and controls the CCTV cameras at Matiang'i home with the application.

The case will be mentioned on March 7 for directions.

The move comes after last week the DCI was granted orders to access and retrieve footage for Karen Ngong view, where Matiang'i home is located.

The footage, in the custody of Amsec security services limited, covers events that occur in the area including the security barrier points.

Upon being granted access to footage held by Amsec, the detective realized that the same did not cover Matiang'i home compound.

Hence, the DCI on Wednesday morning decided to return to court with a fresh application for footage concerning the events at the home compound.
