A police car is currently being held at Mokowe Police Station after it knocked down a motorcycle killing the pillion passenger on the spot and injuring the rider in Lamu County.

In a police report seen by this reporter, the police motor vehicle was being driven by Maurice Odanga an officer attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) when the incident happened.

The incident happened along the main Mokowe Hindi Road at the Kenya Forest Research Institute junction.

“It was reported by Maurice Odanga of GSU company which is at Mokowe that one of his vehicles GKB 523U a Land Cruiser driven by him towards GSU Mokowe CMM had an accident with a motorcycle of registration number KMCZ 007J a Honda which is blue in color,” the report read in part.

Police officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and Traffic Hindi rushed to the scene to contain the situation.

This is when the officers learnt that the rider identified as Mahad Ismael who was carrying one pillion passenger identified as Miriam had been hit by the police land cruiser.

“They were riding from Hindi heading to Mokowe General Direction and on reaching at the location of the accident they were knocked down by the above-mentioned vehicle which was being driven from Mokowe Center and was turning to the right,” the report read in part.

The report further revealed that both the rider and the pillion passenger were seriously injured and rushed to Mokowe General Hospital but the latter was pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.

“The rider was referred to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital in a serious condition. The Motor Vehicle and Motor Cycle are currently detained at Hindi Police Station awaiting further action,” the report concluded.
