Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary-General Davji Atellah on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, led a section of doctors in peaceful demonstrations.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as the medics holding placards made their way around Afya House.

Police, acting on Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki's orders, arrived at the scene to ensure there was no chaos.

The ongoing strike was announced by KMPDU last week in a move meant to push the government to honour their demands.

"KMPDU extends a nationwide invitation to all Doctors, Medical Interns, and Medical Students to join us in peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Let's unite our voices to advocate for the rights of doctors and strive for improved healthcare standards for Kenyans," KMPDU stated.

The strike which began on March 14, 2024, enters day 26.

At the time, the medics downed tools and asked the Ministry of Health to honour the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) made in 2017.

Other grievances include; the delayed posting of interns, fair remuneration of interns, postgraduate training, employment of more doctors and comprehensive health coverage for medics.

So far, the issue remains unresolved with the government insisting that it is unable to meet their financial demands.
