Kenya Airways has dismissed reports circulating on social media that a wooden passenger staircase was used to facilitate entry into one of its airplanes recently.

A picture of the wooden staircase placed strategically at the entrance of a white plane bearing the name Kenya Airways was widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter early this week, with users claiming the airline is undergoing serious financial woes that need urgent intervention.

A Twitter user, whose handle is @AdamMaina posted the now-viral picture, and captioned it: “Hata kama ni shida, hii ni nini (Even if Kenya Airways is undergoing serious financial problems, this [erecting a wooden passenger staircase] is unacceptable).”

KQ took to the micro-blogging site on Thursday, January 9, to refute the allegations, saying: “We respectfully confirm that this is not an aircraft belonging to or operated by @KenyaAirways.”

A communications representative at KQ, who spoke to K24 Digital in confidence, said the picture was photo-shopped from an airport in Cameroon, where a Camair-Co plane was preparing for take-off.

“The picture making the rounds on social media in Kenya is not that of a KQ plane,” she said on phone before sending the original picture of the Camair-Co plane that had a wooden staircase leading to the aircraft.
