Police are pursuing a bishop who led a group of his followers to burn a human skull discovered at a beach in Landa Nyamasari, Homa Bay county, after a "vision" from God.

The incident was reported at the Mbita police station by the area assistant chief identified as Francis Kasuku.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates that the bishop had confessed during an Easter prayer vigil that he had a vision from God, indicating he would find a human skull on the beach.

The New Gift of God Roho church bishop then led the congregation to the waters where the skull was discovered and the group proceeded to burn it before a local assistant chief alerted the police.

However, the officers say by the time they reached the scene, the pastor had already left for an unknown destination and efforts to trace him to shed more light on the issue were futile.

"Upon interviewing locals, It was established that the New Gift of God Roho church Luanda Nyamasari led by Pastor Daniel Okoth Okumu had on 08/04/2023 invited Bishop Charles Ouma Ododo of Roho Foenyi(vision) for a night vigil easter prayers and the said bishop confessed that God had revealed to him that there was a human head in Lake Victoria waters about 50 metres from the lake shores," the police report reads.

Adding;

"He (Bishop) promised to lead other followers in retrieving the head on Sunday, April 9, at around 0900 hrs, he led the believers into the lake waters and retrieved the skull and proceeded to place it at Luanda Nyamasari beach. He led the congregation in burning the skull before the area assistant chief arrived and called in the police."

The skull has since been taken to a mortuary awaiting forensic analysis.

"Police photographed the skull at the scene and proceeded to Homabay county teaching and referral hospital where the mortician confirmed that it was a human skull," police added.
