The Senate has placed the impeachment probe of Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud on an 11-member ad hoc committee instead of the entire house.

28 senators voted in favor of having a committee hear the case while 14 opposed the decision to have the embattled County boss appear before the selected Senators to state his defense.

Governor Mohamud was impeached on Tuesday, April 27 by Wajir County Assembly over claims of gross misconduct, abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution after 37 MCAs voted for his ouster while 10 voted to save the governor against impeachment.

The 11 member ad hoc committee comprises of Okong’o Omogeni (Chair), Susan Kihika (Vice Chair), Johnson Sakaja, Mwangi Githiomi, Christine Zawadi, Mithika Linturi, Hargura Godana, Fred Outa, Agnes Muthama, Petronilla Were and Issa Juma Boy.

After hearing the case against the County boss, the special committee will present its findings to the Senate.

And should the committee find no merit in any allegations brought to it, the Governor will walk free since the case ends at committee level.
