Rescue operations are underway in Bushiangala, Ikolomani, Kakamega County after more than ten miners were buried alive by a collapsed gold mine.

Ten of the miners were rescued while ten were confirmed dead.

Sources at the scene told K24 digital that some miners are unconscious and still lying at the area of the accident as transport to the hospital is arranged.

Most of the minors are allegedly from Tanzania and Migori County.

Heavy rains in the area has made the roads to the scene of the accident impassable, complicating rescue operations.

“My condolences to the families & friends of the 5 miners who have died and several others who escaped with injuries when a gold mine collapsed this evening at Bushiangala in Ikolomani,” Kakamega Senator Bony Khalwale tweeted.
