Suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Monday night attacked a newly-built police station in Borehole 11, Mandera County.

Police said that the number of casualties is yet to be established but images obtained by Mediamax Digital show the attackers caused extensive damage to the station.

The night attack was reported by locals that a large number of militants had stormed the town and were destroying the station with explosives.

The matter is being followed up by police attached to Kutulo Police Station in Mandera County.

Speaking to Mediamax Digital, North Eastern police boss Rono Bunei said that the camp is based near the Kenya- Somali border and was constructed using CDF funds.

“The station was an Administration Police camp and after they were merged with the Kenya Police all officers were moved to other places,” he said.
