Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) who were appointed by President William Ruto and approved by Parliament this week will be sworn in on Thursday, October 27 at State House, Nairobi.
In a gazette notice dated October 26, 2022, the President said the new CSs will take office effective October 27.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 152 (2) of the Constitution, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint ... to be Cabinet Secretaries, with effect from the 27th October, 2022," the gazette notice read in part.
New Cabinet Secretaries
The new CSs include Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi (Prime CS), Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Simon Kiprono Chelugui (Co-operatives), Aden Bare Duale (Defence), Njuguna Sospeter Ndung’u (Treasury), Davis Kimutai Chirchir (Energy), Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs), Alice Muthoni Wahome (Water), and Ababu Namwamba (Sports).
Others are Salim Mvurya (Mining), Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport), Soipan Tuya (Forestry), Moses Kiarie Kuria (Trade), Ezekiel Machogu Ombaki (Education), Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana (Gender), Eliud Okech Owalo (ICT), Rebecca Miano (EAC), Susan Nakhumicha Wafula (Health), Peninah Malonza (Tourism), Zacharia Mwangi Njeru (Lands), Franklin Mithika Linturi (Agriculture), and Florence Koske Bore (Labour).
Justin Muturi and Mercy Wanjau have also been formally appointed as Attorney General and Secretary to the Cabinet respectively.
The National Assembly unanimously approved all the nominated CSs despite the vetting committee rejecting Malonza as Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage boss.
Murkomen, Duale and Wahome have since relinquished their parliamentary seats in readiness for swearing in as members of the Executive branch of government.
