Nairobi ranked among most stressful cities in the world

The study conducted by Vaay, a German based well being company ranked Nairobi at position 80 out of 100 countries.

"We carried out some research to determine the most and least stressful cities in the world, based on structural and environmental factors that are often very visible, but sometimes overlooked, and can contribute to a person’s overall level of stress," the report said in part.

The study looked at governmental factors that dictate levels of inclusion in a city, such as safety and security, gender and minority equality, and socio-political stability.

Nairobi scored fairly in gender equality at 52 points out of a possible 100 and low on safety and security at 24 points.

The city scored high in having low air and light pollution and favorable weather conditions, which anchor its total score of 56.1 out of a possible 100 points.

In access of healthcare, noise pollution and political stability the city scores poorly.

The report also stated that Nairobi has a high population density averaging at 6,318 person’s per square kilometre.

The city's rampant traffic snarl-ups gives it a below average score of 46.6 points on traffic congestion.

Unemployment in the city was ranked at low end of 7 points as minority equality was placed at 47 points.

Other cities making up the top ten list of least stressful cities including Bern in Switzerland, Helsinki, Wellington and Melbourne, Australia.

Oslo, Copenhagen, Innsbruck (Austria), Hannover and Graz in Austria were also ranked as the least stressful cities in the world.

Mumbai in India on ther hand, was ranked the most stressful city with a mere score of one.

Other cities in the bottom five are Lagos, Manila, New Delhi, Baghdad and Kabul.

In Africa, Johannesburg in South Africa ranks as the least stressful city and occupies position 49 on the top-100 list.
