Principal Secretary (PS) for Public Health Mary Muthoni is grieving the loss of her beloved nephew, Dennis Mwangi, who tragically lost his life in a road accident.

In a statement shared on her X media, Muthoni expressed her sorrow as she eulogised her nephew as not just family but a friend.

"Today, I mourn the loss of my precious nephew, Dennis Mwangi. He was not just my nephew but a son and friend. He was more than family, a gentle soul who endured patience, resilience, and unyielding hope. Words are failing me right now. I will miss his endless calls to me, and his unwavering positivity. My heart is heavy, but I find comfort knowing that he is now at peace and watching over us," she expressed.

Muthoni revealed that Dennis died in a devastating road accident.

According to Muthoni's statement, the incident occurred when a bus travelling to Rwanda collided with the bike Mwangi was riding on in the Londiani area of Kericho County, which happened to be his workstation.

"Mwangi’s youthful life was cut short when a bus heading to Rwanda hit the bike he was riding on around the Londiani area in Kericho County which was his workstation," Muthoni shared.

Just days ago, world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum died in a road accident on Sunday night February 11, 2024.

“The accident happened around 11 pm. The car had three occupants, two died on the spot while one was taken to hospital,” Elgeyo Marakwet County Commandant Peter Mulinge said.

The deceased was mourned by leaders across the political divide.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio alliance, expressed his sorrow over the passing of the world record holder for the men's marathon.

Raila said on X that the country had lost a true hero and was mourning a remarkable individual and Kenyan athletics icon.

“Devastating news as we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, Kelvin Kiptum, World Record holder and Kenyan athletics icon. Together with his coach, they tragically passed on in an accident tonight. My deepest condolences to his loved ones, friends, and the entire athletics fraternity. Our nation grieves the profound loss of a true hero,” Raila wrote.
