Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi will start his tour in Nyanza, the political backyard of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, next month to consolidate his support base ahead of the 2022 elections.

Mudavadi, who has declared interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta is keen on making inroads in Raila’s home turf.

Yesterday, party secretary general Barrack Muluka said Mudavadi is set to visit Bondo, Homa Bay and Siaya towns. He said he will also visit parts of Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties.

“For now I cannot divulge details of the planned visit,” he said.A source at ANC, who sought anonymity, told People Daily Mudavadi has been reaching out to Raila to back him for the top seat.

“They have met and discussed the issue because the party leader believes that this is his time since he has supported Raila twice,” said the source.

But Muluka denied the claim, saying Mudavadi has built his own political base and has never reached out to Raila for support. Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo is among leaders who have  pledged to support the ANC leader. Raila has been silent on whether he will vie for the Presidency in 2022.
