Barely two weeks after Eric Maina alias Mlepo and his lover Leilah Truphena posted their video on their YouTube page, unknown people stormed their Umoja 2 residence and brutally murdered them before stealing a TV set, two laptops, and mobile phones.

The two, apparently in love, had posted a video of them in their house on October 24 where they urged viewers to subscribe to their channel, The Mlepos, derived by reversing Maina’s street name.

By Thursday evening, the page had about 1,400 page views.

It is suspected that the two were killed on Friday night. A neighbour told K24 Digital that they heard shouts and screams which did not last long but they did not see the need to investigate further.

On an ordinary day, the couple’s teenage friends would be seen entering and leaving the house on the fourth floor of the apartment they lived in.

Maina was an artist who loved playing loud music all day and night, sometimes at top volume.

The aura had suddenly changed. The house went quiet and later there was a smell.

The fresh air was slowly being replaced by a foul smell that was initially ignored by the neighbours.

Unkown to the neighbours, the two lovers had bled to death just a day before they began sensing some foul smell.

“We however thought it was garbage. The following day, the entire fourth floor was engulfed in foul smell and we decided to inform the landlord and Maina's stepfather,” a neighbour said.

They two could also not be reached through their mobile phones while the door was closed from outside

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said there were signs of vehement struggle and that the two were probably killed by other people who accessed their apartment on Friday night.

“Maina’s neck was tied with an auxiliary cable. His hands were also tied to his back with a piece of cloth. He had multiple stab wounds on the back and a deep cut at the back of his neck,” the DCI said.

The bodies were transferred to the mortuary awaiting post-mortem. The family has urged the police to expedite the investigations with a view to establishing the identity and the motive of the killers
