Former Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has announced plans to quit social media as the electioneering period comes to an end.

In a statement shared on his social media pages, the outspoken Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader said he will permanently delete his Facebook and Twitter pages at 6:00 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

According to the politician, who played an active role in President William Ruto's campaign team, he resolved to take down his accounts following the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader's victory and subsequent inauguration yesterday.

He described Kenya Kwanza's victory over Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition, which fronted Raila Odinga for the presidency, as no mean feat.

"My objective has been achieved. My good friend William Ruto is the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya," Kuria said.

"This account will be permanently deleted on Wednesday 14th September 2022 at 18:00 hours. It was great interaction guys. Adios!" he added while bidding goodbye to his online fans.

Kuria enjoys a huge online following. Over one million Kenyans follow his Facebook and Twitter pages.

Besides running online campaigns for Ruto, Kuria also used the accounts to popularise his failed Kiambu gubernatorial bid.

The former legislator, who ran for the Kiambu governor's seat on a CCK ticket, lost to Kimani Wamatangi of Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the August 9 general election.

Moses Kuria to retire from politics

After his loss, Kuria said he would retire from politics to concentrate on private business after an 8-year stint.

"I enjoyed every minute of my 8 years in elective politics. Back to private sector. Happily," Kuria added.

Matiang'i deletes Twitter account

Kuria's statement comes hours after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i deactivated his Twitter account.

Matiang'i took down his Twitter account on Tuesday as Ruto took the oath of office as Head of State.

Hawk-eyed netizens quickly noticed Matiangi's official Twitter account had been deactivated just moments after Ruto took over the reins of power from retired President Kenyatta.
