Sex workers drawn from Mombasa County have called on their clients to dig deeper into their pockets, to enjoy their services due to the biting economic times being witnessed in the country.

Nkoko Injuu Africa (an NGO that champions sex workers' rights), through its outreach coordinator Lucy Kiragu, said that the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities in the country had led them to hike prices for services offered.

"We have agreed on the basic price to charge, for a session with no romance will now go for Ksh500 from Ksh300, for full packages inclusive of romance our charges are now Ksh1000 from the normal price of Ksh500, this is while one is using protection. Those who want to enjoy services with no protection will be required to cough Ksh3000," Kiragu said.

Kiragu said the new prices will take effect from Thursday this week. She stated that they had issued their clients a 3-day notice on Monday.

She further called on their members to strictly adhere to the newly set prices, failure to which they will face disciplinary actions.

"Tough times call for tough measures. If one is not ready to adhere to the set rules, they will face hefty fines and even be de-registered by the organization. We call our members to cooperate and introduce and stick to the new prices," she said.

Kiragu added that the number of clients ready to enjoy their services has significantly reduced due to the current economic hardship.

Nkoko Injuu has over 4000 registered members across Mombasa County.
