Champions Butali Warriors and former winners Kenya Police registered mixed results in Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League at the weekend.

Titus Kimutai scored in between Job Omondi’s opener and Mathew Mutiso’s winner as Police suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Wazalendo, a first since going down by a similar margin to Butali in April.

Leaders Butali were the biggest winners of the weekend after beating Parklands 6-0 to move to 21 points on the log, four ahead of second-placed Police.

Wazalendo’s win against Police is significant given the outcome of their previous encounter which had been marred by multiple controversies with the law enforcers winning 16-2 on the field but being awarded a 5-0 victory after the circumstances of the match were investigated and recommendations made by an independently selected committee.

In another men’s Premier League match, braces from Davies Wanangwe and Pepela Hagai helped Sikh Union edge Strathmore University 4-2 on Sunday, the winners moving to eighth place on the table.

In the women’s Premier League, champions Telkom maintained their lead after a 3-0 win over Strathmore University. Telkom top the log with 20 points while Strathmore are third with 12 points.

In another match, Amira Sailors beat Sliders 1-0. Sailors lie fourth on the log with 11 points while Sliders lie sixth with as many points.

Last weekend’s matches comprised some backlog from the first leg, especially in the men’s Premier League, that had been postponed to give way for preparations of national teams for the Olympics qualifiers.
