Grief and shock engulfed residents of Omboo area in Suna East within Migori County after an expectant mother took her life together with that of her daughter.

Confirming the incident, Samuel Ondiegi who is the village elder in that area, said the deceased was alone with her daughter when the incident occurred.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on Tuesday night July 12, 2022, at around 7 pm.

The village elder said that the deceased used a rope to strangle her 3-year-old daughter before taking her own life.

"I received the information at around 7 pm and immediately rushed to the scene after informing officers from Migori police station and upon arrival, I established that the woman identified as Candeva Muvinya 26 had committed suicide," he said.

He added that upon arrival, they found all doors closed from inside which forced the officers to struggle to make their way in.

Ondiegi said that the deceased was in a series of conflicts with her in-laws as they did not want their son to marry her.

Migori police launch investigation

The village elder however stated that the deceased did not leave behind a suicide note.

Suna East OCPD Esau Ochorokodi said they have launched investigations into the matter.

The body of the deceased and that of her daughter were taken by police to a nearby mortuary awaiting postmortem.
