The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made an announcement that has finally revealed some of its team members who run their communications and social media platforms.

On Thursday 30, September 2021, the investigations body basked in glory after eight detectives who are attached to its Corporate Communication and Public Affairs unit were conferred with certificates in Advanced Media Production at a ceremony held at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication,(KIMC), Nairobi.

The certificate is tailored to fit DCI's needs and requirements when communicating to public.

According to DCI boss George Kinoti who presided over the graduation ceremony, the course was aimed at exposing the detectives to the latest media technological trends, in order to align them within the contemporary communication demands of this age.

In his address to the detectives who hold different qualifications in the field of Journalism, Kinoti credited communication as an important tool in any serious investigative jurisdiction, adding that it is the greatest tool that had for a long time been lacking in the country’s crime management.

“This is the first time that the National Police Service and DCI, in particular, has offered professional training to police journalists and it exemplifies the importance that DCI attaches to effective communication, in order to bridge the gap that has for a long time existed between us and the public,” Kinoti said.

Kinoti added that like any other science such as Architecture, Medicine and Engineering, Communication is a crucial discipline in the modern world.

"As such, it is a crucial tool that the DCI is exploiting today, to pass our message to victims of crime and criminals as well," he said.

On his part, the institution’s director Hiram Mucheke, lauded the directorate for appreciating the need to train communication practitioners within its ranks.
