Police in Isiolo arrested two suspects including Chari Ward MCA Golicha Meja after 57 stones of bhang were recovered stashed in their house.
In an update on Thursday, DCI said the two were first flagged down within Isiolo town while driving a Toyota Land Cruiser by police from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit and a multi-agency team.
Officers later proceeded to the MCA's house at Kambi Garba Estate on the outskirts of Isiolo town where six gunny bags containing the prohibited herb were recovered.
"The exhibits were escorted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for further processing as the suspects underwent investigative interviewing," DCI said.
This comes barely days after police in Kilifi nabbed 477 kilograms of bhang valued at Ksh14 million.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrest of two suspects, George Nitti and Raphael Mbithi, all aged 37.
"Today, 06/12/2023 within Swallows area in Kilifi South, National Police Service Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)arrested two suspects namely George Nitti, 37 and Raphael Mbithi, 37 with bhang weighing 477 Kgs, estimated to cost Ksh14 million," NPS stated.
The police also impounded a motor vehicle which was transporting the drugs, a Toyota Harrier registration number KDK020B.
"Also seized in the morning incident was a motor vehicle reg no. KDK 020 B Toyota Harrier that was ferrying the drugs. The matter is under investigation by the DCI. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to the investigation of crimes," NPS added.
