Former NTV news anchor Mark Masai has unveiled a new online program barely two weeks after exiting the Nation Media Group (NMG).

Masai shared details about his first digital show in a tweet on Sunday, December 11.

He said the new program dubbed 'TheSocialNewsoom' seeks to tell stories that matter and will premiere on Thursday, December 15, at 6:00 pm.

The show will be live-streamed on Facebook and Twitter.

"Ladies & Gentlemen: Here's to the us! To the new way of doing things. To finding meaning in what we experience. To finding stories that matter to us. Welcome to the future," Masai wrote.

The seasoned journalist had earlier hinted at plans to launch a podcast after his exit from NMG where he worked for 14 years.

Besides anchoring primetime news At NTV, Masai also hosted Press Pass, a TV weekly show that interrogated and critiqued the big stories that are covered by local media.

He was among journalists affected by the ongoing restructuring at the Kimathi street-based media house that has seen high-profile media personalities retrenched.

While announcing his exit on December 2, the journalist said he would bounce back stronger.

"NTV is a great team! These are different times. Was a great show. Time for a short commercial break. I'll be back!" he said in a tweet.

“This is the reality of the media landscape around the world and unfortunately, I was at the losing end of this one."

NMG last month attributed the ongoing restructuring to the prevailing harsh business environment.

“This is an extremely difficult decision given the prevailing business environment,” a memo seen by K24 Digital read in part.

“This exercise will be carried out with utmost dignity and by the Labour Laws of Kenya. We will strive to provide all the necessary support to help those affected to manage the transition.”

Other journalists who have exited the media house in the recent past include Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu and investigative journalist Dennis Okari.
